Best Moveset For Eelektross In Pokémon GO: Is It Any Good? (2024)

Eelektross might not be the first Electric-type Pokémon you think of when heading into battle in Pokémon GO, but with a new move under its belt thanks to its July 2024 Community Day appearance, it's time to revisit its place in the meta. Whether you want to use it as an attacker in Raids or as a fighter in the GO Battle League, you'll need to know Eelektross's best moveset.

Tynamo is so small you can hardly see it, but its final evolution Eelektross is quite an intimidating creature. It first appeared in Pokémon Black & White's Unova region, before making its way into Pokémon GO in 2021. Now that it's taken center stage in its very own Community Day event, you'll be able to evolve one that knows the featured Fast Attack, Volt Switch.

Focus On Moves With STAB

If you're looking to take part in PvP Battles in the Pokémon GO Battle League, the best moveset for Eelektross is Volt Switch as a Fast Attack with Thunderbolt and Dragon Claw as Charged Attacks.

Volt Switch is a direct upgrade from Eelektross's other Electric-type Fast Attack, Spark, so it's definitely worth evolving an Eelektross during the July 2024 Community Day event to get it. If you miss that event, you'll get another chance during December 2024's Community Day event, where all of this year's featured Pokémon return for a special weekend-long celebration.

You can also use an Elite Fast TM to teach Eelektross the move Volt Switch, but considering how rare Elite Fast TMs are in Pokémon GO, you're probably better off saving them for a more useful Pokémon.

When it comes to Charged Attacks, Thunderbolt is an essential move for Eelektross, as it benefits from Same Type Attack Boost (STAB) and lets it unleash a huge amount of damage on Flying-type and Water-type Pokémon. Round this out with Dragon Claw, a cheaper move that can bait shields and provide some extra coverage for enemies that are resistant to Electric-type attacks.

If you're looking to use Eelektross as an Electric-type attacker in Raid Battles, go with Spark as a Fast Attack and Thunderbolt as a Charged Attack. This moveset should serve you pretty well, although it's worth pointing out that Eelektross isn't the best Electric-type attacker in Pokémon GO, and it should only be used if you don't have any better options. More on that later.

Three Fast Attacks And Five Charged Attacks

Eelektross has quite a varied move pool to choose from in Pokémon GO, with three Fast Attacks and five Charged Attacks ranging across Electric, Poison, Dark, Dragon, and Water. This does give it lots of potential coverage options, although being a mono-type means it will only get STAB from Electric-type moves. You can see its full move pool below:

Is Eelektross Good In Pokémon GO?

The Short Answer: Not Really

As a pure Electric-type Pokémon, Eelektross finds itself up against some fierce competition in Pokémon GO. While the addition of Volt Switch will definitely help its performance in the GO Battle League, you're much better off sticking with tried-and-tested Electric-type Pokémon like Lanturn, Chargjabug, and Togedemaru in the Great League, or Zapdos, Bellibolt, and Stunfisk in the Ultra League.

Electric-type Pokémon don't tend to fare too well in the GO Battle League in general, with the top spots in PvPoke's rankings of the Great League and Ultra League typically reserved for Steel-type, Water-type, Normal-type, and Fighting-type Pokémon. Many of these also benefit from having dual typings, which gives them a unique set of resistances and offensive capabilities.

What Eelektross really needs to give it a fighting chance in the Pokémon GO Battle League is a better Electric-type Charged Attack like Wild Charge. Until that happens, there's not much to recommend about it.

If you're thinking of using Eelektross as an Electric-type attack in Raids, the same remains true: there are simply much better alternatives out there. It would be wise to focus your time and resources on powerful Pokémon like Xurkitree, Zekrom, Zapdos, or Raikou. Even non-legendary creatures like Electivire, Mangezone, and Luxray can be great assets to your team.

Overall, Eelektross doesn't really excel in any area of Pokémon GO. It's worth getting one that knows the featured Fast Attack Volt Switch if you're able to, but even with that move, it remains more of a Pokedex filler than anything valuable.
