How to complete the Season Journey in Diablo 4 Season 4, and all the rewards you'll earn along the way (2024)

Diablo 4 Season 4 just began, and with it brand new Season Journey. This series of increasingly difficult challenges will reward loot, gear, titles, cosmetics, Battle Pass progress, and general prestige, as well as Season Blessings to buff you along the way.

Season 4 has significantly changed the way Legendary Aspects work, so this Season Journey no longer rewards any Aspects — however, I think the updated rewards are better. In Season 4, each Season Journey chapter rewards a cache of Legendary gear, and at higher levels Ancestral and Unique gear tailored to your class. Each class has a specific build this gear will focus on, and while you don’t have to play that build you will collect its gear as you progress — and because of the new Aspect system, when you outgrow the gear you can simply salvage it and add the Aspect to anything you loot in the future instead of being able to transfer it just once.

The difficulty of the Season 4 Season Journey feels about on par with recent seasons, though the number of objectives you need to complete is a bit higher. You probably won’t have much difficulty completing the first four tiers, which will only require playing up to World Tier 3 and doing quite a few Helltides. However the last three chapters are more difficult, as they start requiring you to defeat powerful enemies on the boss ladder — including Lilith, Andariel, and Duriel — and doing more difficult World Tier 4 content. Certainly these goals are achievable, but expect to level to 100 and spend a fair amount of time if you want to hit these high-end goals.

Like last season, Season 4 has no cosmetic rewards in the Season Journey — in addition to caches, you can only earn two emblems and two titles — which is very disappointing. Overall the cosmetics you can get for free on the Season Journey and Battle Pass are quite skimpy, with most of the coolest cosmetics being cash purchases. However, I’ve got to say the free armor set on this Season’s Battle Pass is more interesting than those we’ve seen before, with an interesting spring theme that includes pastel colors, flowers, and skulls. It’s still Diablo, after all, so skulls have to be somewhere.

Here are all of the objectives and rewards on the Diablo 4 Season 4 Season Journey, as well as some advice on how to make it through the Season 4 Journey.

Chapter 1

Chapter 1 objectives

Complete 8 of 10 objectives to earn all rewards and unlock Chapter 2:

  • Complete 1 Dungeon
  • Complete 2 World Events
  • Complete 3 Cellars
  • Collect 50 Iron Chunks
  • Collect 50 Rawhide
  • Collect 50 Bundled Herbs
  • Collect 10 Angelbreath
  • Reach Wolf’s Honor Rank 1 (Helltide)
  • Complete 1 Iron Wolf Event (Helltide)
  • Open 1 Tortured Gift (Helltide)

This one is quite easy: collect crafting materials wherever you can, do basic content, and slaughter your way through Helltides. Expect to pick this up quickly from simply playing in Season 4 — though if you, like me, don’t skip the campaign you’ll have to play through it before you can access Helltides to work on the Iron Wolves objectives. However, Helltides are now available in World Tiers 1 and 2, so as long as you skip the campaign you can jump into the demon-slaying fun straight away.

Chapter 1 rewards

  • Greater Favor, to unlock new Battle Pass tiers
  • First Journey Cache, containing consumables
  • First Journey Crafting Cache, containing level-appropriate crafting materials
  • First Journey Equipment Cache, containing a legendary weapon, gloves, and amulet for your class

Chapter 2

Complete 7 of 10 objectives to earn all rewards and unlock Chapter 3:

Chapter 2 objectives

  • Craft 10 Elixirs at the Alchemist
  • Collect 3 Whispering Keys from the Purveyor of Curiosities
  • Unlock 3 Aspects in the Codex of Power
  • Learn 1 Magic recipe
  • Complete 3 Doomsayer Events (Helltide)
  • Disrupt 3 Cultist Rituals (Helltide)
  • Open 10 Tortured Gifts (Helltide)
  • Acquire 666 Aberrant Cinders (Helltide)
  • Reach Wolf’s Honor rank 6 (Helltide)
  • Increase your Threat Level to max (Helltide)

Another easy tier, though you’ll need to go out of your way to buy Whispering Keys (something I typically skip due to poor rewards). You’ll want to keep focusing on Helltides, but that shouldn’t be a hardship since they offer excellent rewards and you can do them at lower difficulty levels. Just jump into the active Helltide zone to slaughter anything you see between other activities, and you’ll work through these achievements.

Chapter 2 rewards

  • Greater Favor, to unlock new Battle Pass tiers
  • Second Journey Cache, containing a Temper Manual and other consumables
  • Second Journey Crafting Cache, containing level-appropriate crafting materials
  • Second Journey Equipment Cache, containing a legendary weapon, pants, and ring for your class

Chapter 3

Complete 8 of 10 objectives to earn all rewards and unlock Chapter 4:

Chapter 3 objectives

  • Complete 1 Legion Event
  • Learn 1 Rare recipe
  • Complete 3 World Events with Mastery
  • Temper 5 Affixes onto gear at the Blacksmith
  • Consume 5 Seasonal Elixirs (Elixir of Momentum or Elixir of Holy Bolts)
  • Obtain 10 Caches from the Tree of Whispers
  • Buy 25 pieces of equipment from the Purveyor of Curiosities
  • Defeat 666 monsters while Bloodmarked (PVP)
  • Defeat 666 monsters while at Max Threat Level (Helltide)
  • Reach Wolf’s Honor Rank 9 (Helltide)

Chapter 3 is another easy one, and in fact there’s a very good chance you’ll have finished several of these before you unlock the chapter. Legion Events and Whispers are great ways to level and collect gear, so I highly recommend doing them as soon as soon as you can — you need to finish or skip the campaign to access them, but if you skip the campaign you can do them immediately, at level 1. Continue hitting up Helltides to earn Iron Wolves reputation, and if you aren’t a fan of PVP, remember you can easily pass over that part of the chapter.

Chapter 3 rewards

  • Greater Favor, to unlock new Battle Pass tiers
  • Third Journey Cache, containing consumables
  • Third Journey Crafting Cache, containing level-appropriate crafting materials
  • Third Journey Equipment Cache, containing a legendary weapon, chest armor, and boots

Chapter 4

Complete 9 of 11 objectives to earn all rewards and unlock Slayer.

Chapter 4 objectives

  • Equip a Sacred Legendary in every slot
  • Collect 5 Scattered Prisms (World Bosses)
  • Complete a Tier 10 Nightmare Dungeon
  • Defeat 25 elite monsters while Bloodmarked (PVP)
  • Defeat Hellborne (Helltide)
  • Defeat Blood Maiden in World Tier 3 (Helltide)
  • Complete 15 Iron Wolf Events (Helltide)
  • Collect 15 Baneful Hearts from Hellborne (Helltide)
  • Defeat 666 monsters while at Max Threat Level in World Tier 3 (Helltide)
  • Defeat 666 monsters while using the Profane Mindcage (Helltide)
  • Defeat 666 elite monsters while using the Profane Mindcage (Helltide)

Chapter 4 will push you into World Tier 3, in the first notable difficulty increase in the Season Journey. Though there’s no fixed level requirement to complete this chapter, you can expect to be in your 50s to successfully navigate World Tier 3 and complete these challenges. Helltides will remain your focus for this chapter, with brief diversions to kill World Bosses and complete some modest Nightmare Dungeons. And remember, if you aren’t a fan of PVP you can skip that task and do another.

Chapter 4 rewards

  • Greater Favor, to unlock new Battle Pass tiers
  • Fourth Journey Cache, containing a Temper Manual, Scroll of Amnesia, and other consumables
  • Fourth Journey Crafting Cache, containing crafting materials
  • Fourth Journey Equipment Cache, containing a legendary weapon, helm, and ring
  • Fourth Journey Summoning Cache, containing materials to summon bosses in World Tier 4
  • Captain of the Wolves emblem

Slayer

Complete 9 of 11 objectives to earn all rewards and unlock Champion.

Slayer objectives

  • Equip Ancestral Legendary items in every slot
  • Unlock a Legendary Paragon Node
  • Temper 8 Affixes onto Ancestral Gear
  • Add 5 sockets to gear at the Jeweler
  • Salvage 100 Ancestral Legendary items
  • Purify 33,333 Seeds of Hatred (PVP)
  • Defeat Echo of Varshan in World Tier 3 (Boss Ladder)
  • Defeat Grigoire, the Galvanic Saint, in World Tier 4 (Boss Ladder)
  • Acquire 6,666 Aberrant Cinders in World Tier 4 (Helltide)
  • Defeat all 5 Helltide Commanders while using the Profane Mindcage (Helltide)
  • Reach Wolf’s Honor Rank 15 (Helltide)

The Slayer chapter puts you just on the cusp of the game’s toughest content as you tackle the first two bosses in the boss ladder: Grigoire and Varshan. (If you need help, read our guide on summoning bosses.) You’ll want to jump to World Tier 4 to complete this — two tasks will require it — where you should continue gearing up, upgrading, and running Helltides. So many Helltides.

And for those of you daunted by the 33,333 Seeds of Hatred, don’t be: these drop in tremendous quantities so it’s quick to collect them, and I’ve never been harassed by PVPers while doing so.

Slayer rewards

  • Epic Favor, to unlock new Battle Pass tiers
  • Slayer’s Cache, containing a Scroll of Amnesia and other consumables
  • Slayer’s Crafting Cache, containing crafting materials
  • Slayer’s Equipment Cache, containing two Ancestral Legendaries and an Ancestral Unique
  • Slayer’s Summoning Cache, containing materials to summon bosses in World Tier 4

Champion

Complete 10 of 12 objectives to earn all rewards and unlock Destroyer.

Champion objectives

  • Reach level 90
  • Learn a recipe of Legendary rarity or higher
  • Attempt to Masterwork gear 20 times
  • Defeat Seething Abomination 5 times while Bloodmarked (PVP)
  • Defeat Lord Zir in World Tier 4 (Boss Ladder)
  • Defeat the Beast in Ice in World Tier 4 (Boss Ladder)
  • Defeat Echo of Andariel in World Tier 4 (Boss Ladder)
  • Defeat Echo of Duriel in World Tier 4 (Boss Ladder)
  • Open 10 Tortured Gifts during a single Helltide in World Tier 4 (Helltide)
  • Defeat Hellborne while using the Profane Mindcage in World Tier 4 (Helltide)
  • Defeat 666 monsters within 6 minutes while using a Profane Mindcage in World Tier 4 (Helltide)
  • Complete Artificer’s Tier 1 in the Pit

By now, you should be well on your way to level 100, as you’ll want to be there (or at least in the ballpark) to tackle some of these tough bosses. Focus on farming materials for the boss ladder and keep leveling, gearing, and upgrading until you can defeat the ladder bosses (or find friends who can help). You’ll also be making your first run into the Pit, a new timed end-game dungeon — but you only have to do it at the lowest difficulty, which should be very achievable at this point.

And yet even with all of these bosses, I think the most difficult task on this list is opening 10 Tortured Gifts in a single Helltide — I know it’s doable, but I’ve never managed to get enough of them in an hour.

Champion rewards

  • Epic Favor, to unlock new Battle Pass tiers
  • Champion’s Cache, containing a Temper Manual, Scroll of Amnesia, and other consumables
  • Champion’s Crafting Cache, containing level-appropriate crafting materials
  • Champion’s Equipment Cache, containing two Ancestral Legendaries and an Ancestral Unique
  • Champion’s Summoning Cache, containing materials to summon Tormented Echo bosses
  • Mark of the Artificer emblem

Destroyer

Complete 7 of 9 objectives to earn all rewards.

Destroyer objectives

  • Defeat 10 World Bosses
  • Improve 5 Paragon Glyphs to Rank 15
  • Masterwork one piece of gear gear to Rank 8
  • Defeat Echo of Lilith in World Tier 4
  • Defeat Tormented Echo of Andariel (Boss Ladder)
  • Defeat Tormented Echo of Duriel (Boss Ladder)
  • Defeat the Blood Maiden while using the Profane Mindcage in World Tier 4 (Helltide)
  • Reach Wolf’s Honor Rank 18 (Helltide)
  • Complete Artificer’s Tier 21 in The Pit

Expect to be level 100 with pretty good gear to finish up the Season Journey. To wrap up Season 4, you’ll need to defeat every boss on the boss ladder, max out your Iron Wolves reputation in Helltides, and manage to make a good showing in The Pit. While you only have to finish seven of these tasks, there aren’t enough easy tasks to let you avoid the harder ones

Destroyer rewards

  • Destroyer’s Cache, containing a Scroll of Amnesia and other consumables
  • Destroyer’s Crafting Cache, containing level-appropriate crafting materials
  • Destroyer’s Equipment Cache, containing two Ancestral Legendaries and two Ancestral Uniques
  • Destroyer’s Summoning Cache, containing materials to summon Tormented Echo bosses
  • Player titles Crafty (prefix) and Looter (suffix)

And that’s all for the Season Journey in Diablo 4 Season 4. If you’ve made it this far, you’ve well and truly mastered this season of Diablo.

Good luck with this season and earning all of the rewards!
