What is the Green List Tier 1 Residency Pathway?
Your occupation could be the pathway to permanent residence in New Zealand.
To help businesses in New Zealand fill in demand positions, the New Zealand government offers a residency pathway known as the Green list.
The Green list is categorised into two tiers, with the Green List Tier 1 occupations being eligible to apply for residency via the “straight to residence” pathway.
Tier 1 Green List occupations may be able to apply for residency if they meet the criteria of the this type of work visa and a wide range of careers are included in the Green list and these can be found here.

Tier 1 Green List New Zealand Residency
If you have a qualification and experience working in an occupation categorised as a Tier 1 occupation on the Green List, and you have a job offer from an Accredited Employer in New Zealand, you could apply for residency in New Zealand.
The occupations on the Green List are considered high-skill and/or hard to fill, meaning that qualified workers are in demand.
With this residency pathway, you can live, work and study in New Zealand. You can also stay indefinitely in New Zealand and include your partner and/or dependent children in your application.

To be eligible for this occupation-based residency pathway, there are a number of criteria that must be met, including:
- You are employed by, or hold an employment offer from, an accredited employer.
- You meet your role’s requirement set out in Tier 1 of the Green List.
