- Free Nurse Advice Line Available 24/7 for Your Patients
September 2017
L.A. Care Health Plan members can access a free, in-language Nurse Advice Line (NAL) by calling 1-800-249-3619(TTY 711). The NAL is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Please let your L.A. Care patients know they can call the NAL if they have any health-related questions. Our trained nurses can help with concerns or advise on what to do next, including helping the patient get urgent or emergency level care.
The NAL phone number is printed on the member’s health plan ID card. Members can also chat live with a nurse using their L.A. Care Connect online member account.
If your patient is a member with one of our Plan Partners, they can call Nurse Advice Line services at these numbers:
- Anthem Blue Cross:1-800-224-0336or TTY/TDD1-800-368-4424
- Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan:1-800-605-2556

Important Notice for Providers: May23,2024 Call the Car System Outage
Call the Car (CTC), L.A. Care’s Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) & Non-Medical Transportation (NMT) Vendor experienced an unexpected disruption during a routine backup procedure. The disruption is affecting the Call the Car mobile application and is extending call center hold times for transportation reservations. Call the Car has increased call center staff to support the increase in call volume, however the average hold time is still longer than usual.
L.A. Care would like to remind providers of the timeframes for advance transportation scheduling are as follows:
- NEMT: Discharges/Transfers: Same Day
- NEMT: 2 Business Days Min.
- NMT: Door to Door: 2 Business Days Min.
- NMT: Curb to Curb: 3 Hours Min.
If you or your staff regularly schedule advance transportation trips with Call the Car, we would greatly appreciate if you would limit calls by scheduling in accordance with the advance scheduling timeframes above and refrain from scheduling too far in advance as it would help to alleviate the current call volume for members and providers who need immediate assistance.
Your understanding and ongoing patience is greatly valued and appreciated. We will continue to keep you updated.
