During an appearance on CNN on Friday morning, Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-NY) called out House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) for refusing to extend an invitation to Kenyan President William Ruto to speak to Congress during a rare visit to Washington, D.C.
More than 500 guests attended President Joe Biden's red carpet event on Thursday night celebrating 60 years of relations between the two countries, with former President Barack Obama making an appearance along with "business leaders, typical Washington types and a few random celebrities, such as actor Wilmer Valderrama, 'American Pie' singer Don McLean and author Barbara Kingsolver," reported the Washington Post.
Speaking with CNN host John Berman, the New York Democrat claimed it was disgraceful that Johnson, the GOP leader in the House ignored Ruto's availability during his visit.

"I'm very upset with Speaker Johnson because of his snub of President Ruto last night, he's the first African head of state to be here and almost 18 years so since anyone has been able to address the full session of Congress and to have him snub him the way that he just shows disrespect I think of an African nation," he told the host.
"As you see, all others that have come have been honored with reference to being at a joint session of Congress," he continued and referenced a recent invitation to embattled Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin "Bibi" Netanyahu to address Congress and adding, "So for the speaker to make this announcement even while president Ruto is here and snubbed him, just seems to me that Speaker Johnson just playing political games here."

Melania Trump's decision to shill patriotic pendants for Memorial Day has reminded the internet how much it enjoys mocking Trump family "grift."
The former first lady announced on Instagram Thursday the launch of her new jewelry line "The Fortitude Collection" and faced almost immediate mockery.
"When will this disturbing family stop grifting?" replied Instagram user lyle.murphy357. Added panther.10883, "Fresh from the discount bin of the Liberace House of C---."

The gold plated and stainless steel pendants are for sale on the USA Memorabilia website at $175 and $125 a pop, respectively.
The "Bravery" medallion depicts a soldier standing in front of a waving American flag and the "Liberty" pendant shows an eagle and, again, the flag.
"The Fortitude Collection celebrates our service members, our Nation, and our freedom," the website explains.
Commented Instagram user jeffrywbb, "Ms Girl what in the entire f--- is this?"
While the website notes the jewelry was made in America, cynic @ConservBlue2020 replied, "It’s probably made in China for like 10 bucks."
X user Renegade Cowboy also scorned the price tag and the purveyor.
"There is nothing these scumbags won’t try to sell for a paycheck," he wrote. "This whole family is nothing but gifters [sic], moochers and con men."

This is not the first time Melania Trump's jewelry has spurred mockery in recent weeks, even from a former aide.
Stephanie Grisham admitted on CNN last month that she was trying not to laugh about the former First Lady's decision to hawk "ugly" $245 Mother's Day necklaces, or where the money would go.
"Nothing on the website suggests that the money raised is going to charity or anything like that," asked Erin Burnett. "Do you have any sense what she could be selling the jewelry for? Is this just money for herself? ...To raise money for the legal defense?"
"I tried not to laugh at the thought that she would be raising money for his defense," Grisham replied. "That's not going to be it."

'Clowns': RNC 'election integrity' chief slammed for odd fake elector mugshot choice

The Republican National Committee's "election integrity" chief drew parallels to circus shows, crime families, and dystopian novels Friday when she decided to put her fake electors case mugshot in an unexpected place.
The X profile picture of Christina Bobb, the onetime lawyer to former president Donald Trump charged with attempting to overturn the 2020 presidential election in Arizona, now shows the photo police took after she was arrested on felony charges.
The Bulwark host Tim Miller was among the first to spot the change Friday morning and quickly alerted his followers, who were just as quick to share their views on Bobb, the Republican Party, Trump and his upcoming presidential campaign.
"The Republican Party is gone," replied Joey Marinara Sauce. "These folks are all criminals and grifters and clowns."
Bobb is among 18 people charged in the Arizona fake elector scheme that state prosecutors contend also involved Trump confidantes Rudy Giuliani and Boris Epshteyn.
Quipped X user The Dose of Reality Friday, "Nothing says election integrity like being a coup plotter."

The RNC's special counsel for election integrity pleaded not guilty to charges that she conspired to corrupt Arizona election results and has boasted publicly of her recent indictment.
"I don’t think she realizes, that’s not the flex she thinks it is," X user UnitedWeStand said of the mugshot.
Bobb's odd choice spurred many of Miller's followers to draw a parallel between the RNC official and the Republican party at large, who has swiftly lined up behind their party's presumptive nominee.
Mike Dalesandro commented Friday, "I bet they practice mugshot poses in the bathroom."
"She’s signaling she’s part of the mob," added Kristine Kenyon.
"When my 1970’s high school English class discussed 'dystopia,'" replied JRo, "this is the science fiction future I could hardly imagine."

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) called for a radical overhaul of the scandal-plagued U.S. Supreme Court.
The court has been rocked by ethics scandals – particularly those involving justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito – and Raskin urged Congress in an interview with Slate to pass major reforms to rein in what he sees as an increasingly lawless judicial branch to reflect a broader view of the United States.
"The Constitution does not fix the numerical composition of the Supreme Court, and it has changed nine or 10 different times over the course of our history," Raskin told the publication. "We have 13 federal circuits. We’ve got nine justices. Five of those justices are from New York. We’ve got one for each borough. We have entire federal circuits that don’t have a single justice."
Donald Trump, who appointed three of the current justices as president, recently told an audience at an NRA conference that he preferred to appoint younger judges who might stay on the bench for up to 50 years, and Raskin said no president should have that power.

"How about we start to talk about having 13 justices on the Supreme Court, one from each circuit, 18-year terms — they still get life tenure because they can go and be on the district bench or the circuit bench," Raskin said. "Each president gets two appointments to the court. Obviously, the Senate still has to advise and consent, but it will remove some of the toxicity and the poison from the nominations if we know that each president will get two. We can deal with this problem, but the current Supreme Court is just a scandal."
Thomas has been criticized for accepting gifts and luxury travel from Republican megadonor Harlan Crow and other friends, and he and Alito, along with justice Neil Gorsuch, have been criticized for socializing or doing business with groups and individuals with cases before the court.
"I never thought I would live to see the day where justices have their own billionaire sugar daddies who give them houses and automobiles and private school tuitions," Raskin said. "My friend Dar Williams sings a song where she says: 'It’s a long road from law to justice.' I was a law professor for 25 years. People come up to me on the street and they say, 'Wait a second — you were a tenured professor of constitutional law, and you went down there to work with Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert?' But I left for a reason. I fell out of love with the idea of trying to make it work. I mean, I think it’s great that people do it. But to my mind, we’ve gotta organize the people in America. That’s where the power comes from. And we will, if and when we win back the House and the Senate and the White House. We will look at the Supreme Court and figure out what can be done about that extremely corrupted and contaminated body."
